Halloween Crafts
Halloween crafts are a great way to have a lot of fun during the holiday season and they can also be used to decorate your house or to give away to trick-or-treaters who come knocking at the door. They’re very fun for getting children involved in the festivities and making the most of the holiday. Because halloween is such a widespread and entertaining holiday there are plenty of different types of crafts and fun things you can do this time of year.
Halloween Decoration Crafts
Halloween decorations are one of the most fun parts of the holiday. From spooky and scary to cute and clever the decorations for halloween are always fun and creative. One of the best ways to really enjoy halloween is to spend some fun time decorating for it and creating your own decorations is one of the most fun things you can do during halloween. Pumpkin carving is, of course, the most popular way to decorate for halloween and everyone has their own style and unique methods. Pumpkin carving can be used to decorate a walk way or the front door of your home and they look especially spooky with candles inside of them but you can also paint them, decorate them with straw, hats, glitter, buttons, and so on. This can be a good alternative for younger children who aren’t able to use any of the pumpkin carving tools yet or for parents who are concerned that a child may hurt themselves. Remember to save the pumpkin seeds as they make a tasty treat!
There are also lots of fun crafts that you can do to decorate your house inside and out that don’t just involve pumpkins. White bed sheets and pillow cases can be stuffed with newspaper and hung with string from trees, fences, light posts, and so on around your house to look like spooky ghosts. You can also cut circles out of black construction paper and tape them on to look like eyes and a mouth.
Another great idea for decorating for halloween is to use cookie cutter to cut out spooky shapes from tissue paper and then tape them to windows around your home. When the light shines through them they’ll make lots of fun shapes on the wall and they’ll look very festive to people passing by your house. This also works great for making little lanterns with tea lights and tissue paper because they can give a spooky look to a walk way or a sidewalk by your house. You can also do this with ordinary paper bags and cut jack-o-lantern type faces into them and just set a little tea light in them. Just be careful not to knock them over or they might catch fire. Another fun way to decorate for halloween is to create your own little halloween monsters and characters using every day household items. You can use pipe cleaner and cotton balls to create creepy crawly bugs and spiders. Burned out light bulbs and old cookie cutters can be used to make little witches. Newspaper can be folded and painted to make witch hats. Paper mache is pretty fun too and can also be a great way to make a pinata for a halloween party as well as some smaller house decorations that can be set around to give it a festive feel.
Halloween Treat Crafts
Halloween crafts that are also treats are extremely fun to make and even more fun to eat. Because halloween has so many different things that are associated with it (cats, ghosts, owls, bats, witches, pumpkins etc) there is no shortage of fun treats you can make that display some of these spooky themes. Spiderweb cake and cupcakes are always fun and you can put little plastic spiders on them too - just be careful no one eats them. Cookies are a classic halloween treat and you can have a lot of fun decorating them to look like different creatures. You can also bake up a yummy pumpkin pie and make some homemade whipped cream to go with it. After carving a pumpkin it’s a great idea to save the pumpkin seeds for a treat. All you have to do is lay them out to dry, sprinkle them with some salt, and then put them in the oven to bake for a few minutes. They’ll be crispy, crunchy and delicious when they’re done. Because halloween is meant to be spooky you can also use your halloween treats to be scary. Spaghetti can be boiled and turned into “brains” while peeled grapes easily become “eyeballs” and so on. You can also make haunted houses out of cookie or ginger dough just like you would during christmas. Even classic treats like brownies or popcorn can have fun halloween twists with orange and black icing or a purple food coloring added into the mix to make it fun. You can also do fun things with your drinks like using grape or orange soda, putting little plastic bugs in your ice cubes, or adding dry ice to your punch bowls for a spooky effect with fog. There are plenty of fun ways you can dress up your treats and have a crafty halloween.
Halloween Costume Crafts
The best halloween costumes are always the ones that are made at home and they don’t have to be difficult or complicated to still be lots of fun. Some of the easiest ways to do it are to simply use old clothes or hand-me-downs and a create a costume out of them. If you use some scissors to cut and tear some old clothes up a bit and then pour fake blood on it while adding some face paint you can make a very convincing zombie or otherwise dead looking person. You can also use old clothes and straw to make a good scarecrow costume. You can always go for the classic ghost made out of a bed sheet outfit or you can find a vintage wedding dress and be a zombie bride. There are tons and tons of options out there if you get creative. Face paint is a really simple crafty way to make a costume that much better. Bugs, butterflies, angels, princesses, vampires, and all sorts of monsters need face paint to really show off their costume and if you practice this craft and get good at it you can save a lot of money on costumes by doing face paint and using things at home for the rest of the costume. You can also get really crafty and sew some homemade costumes if you’re looking for something a little more elaborate.
Halloween is a really fun holiday and it’s even more fun if you get involved with lots of crafts that can make your halloween spooky and exciting. Get creative and see what you can come up with!
