Craft Supplies
It is always a good idea to have craft supplies on hand, especially if you craft regularly. Some items are useful no matter what project you’re working on, so they are good to keep around at all times. You’ll find that as you do more and more crafting you will start to build up a decent collection of crafting supplies and materials that will come in useful for later projects. You never know what piece may come in handy later so if you have the space it’s a great idea to hang on to as much of the materials and supplies as you can.
To get started on your own collection of supplies there are a few basics that will come in handy. Scissors are necessary for almost any project you take on, so make sure you have a decent pair. A few different types of glue are also necessary. Elmer’s glue, glue sticks and rubber cement can cover most of your projects, especially as a beginner crafter. Also consider getting a hot glue gun, it will come in handy on more complex projects. Construction paper and felt are a couple materials that lend themselves to many projects, or can be used as a substitute. A sewing kit can also serve you well both as a way of putting materials together and as another decorating tool. Markers are a necessity in any basic craft kit, and they can be utilized in many ways (try using them as ink for stamps, they work very well).
As you work on more projects you will start to find the materials you enjoy working with. Start collecting those things as well, so that you always have your preferred crafting materials on hand. The type of crafts you are interested in making will also help dictate what you want to keep around. If you are into scrapbooking then start collecting patterned and textured paper, stickers, stamps, and cut outs. If you enjoy making jewelry you will want to have beads, pendants, jewelry glue, etc.
Having a basic crafting supply kit will allow you to begin projects without worrying about hitting the store first. When inspiration calls you can be ready to sit down and get started. Think of the supplies and materials you want to work with, and don’t be too hasty throwing away scraps at the end of a project.
